Bandung "Paris van Java"

Bandung Situ PatenggangThis beautiful city is located 750m above sea level, and protected by a fortress of watchful volcanoes 190km southeast of Jakarta.

Due to its topology, climate in Bandung is relatively cooler throughout the year than most of Indonesian cities.

The average annual rainfall ranges from 1,000 millimeters in the middle and the southeast region to 3,500 millimeters in the north of the city. The wet season conforms with other Indonesian regions, around November to April.

Bandung is the third largest city in Indonesia and a center of industry and traditional Sundanese arts with plenty of cultural performances for tourists though it suffers from incredible traffic pollution and uninteresting modern developments.

Tangkuban Perahu BandungSundanese culture has remained intact here since the fifth century when the first Hindu Sundanese settled in this part of West Java.

Modern Bandung's main tourist attraction is nearby Tangkuban Perahu volcano, from where there's a very pleasant two-hour forest walk down to the city, too.

The Dutch spotted the potential of this lush, cool plateau and its fertile volcanic slopes in the mid-seventeenth century, and set about cultivating coffee and rice here, settling in the area to live in the early nineteenth century.

Bandung at nightDuring the Dutch colonial days, Bandung used to be known as Paris van Java. Today, “Paris van Java” is a name of a modern shopping mall in Bandung.

Several relics from the city's colonial era remain, including some of the elegant shops along Jalan Braga, and some fine buildings on Jalan Asia-Afrika.
For meal, there are so many nice restaurants around for you to try out the local Sundanese cuisine.

Moving around Bandung and the surrounding areas is easy.

Hire a car and a driver for the day will only cost approx. $30 exclusive of gas, parking fee, tips and meals for the driver.
